Not impressed

Location - great for getting about but lots of ropey characters about. The room was awful - dark, dingey and dirty. Thick dust under furniture. Dirty stained carpet. Badly needed decorating as the brown wallpaper(!!) had peeled in several places and been stuck back up. Paintwork defies description! The widow frame was broken, you could literally pull the frames apart. On the plus side the shower was powerful and water hot, the air-con bliss, and TV had lots of channels when you were too footsore to walk anymore. The maids do their best for you, always leave plenty of fresh towels and make up the bed, tidy bathroom etc. Dont be fooled into thinking you wont spend much time in your room as NY is a tiring city and you may well want to rest during day, not just sleep in it at night. On the whole, for a few dollars more, you really could get much much more.

can't beat the location

Hotel Pennsylvania probably used to be very grand at one point but it's looking a little tired and dated now. That said, the location is perfect if, like me, you need to catch a train the next day. My room was big by NY standards, clean and they showed Euro 2008 on the telly. No complaints here but if you expect out and out luxury, you may wish to try elsewhere.

Great Location; Bad Experience

Great Location; Directly across from Penn Station. However, I had a bad experience with the check-in process. It appeared they were well understaffed. I had to wait 45min at 8PM attempting to check in. You should move along to the next hotel and spend a few bucks more.

awful - don't go

On the face of it from reception this is another large corporate American hotel, however the standard room that we were given was awful -smelly, dirty, ripped carpets, dark and dismal. We then asked for a better room and got a Penn 500 room which was very average but at least clean. We were booked in for 3 nights but only stayed 2 and paid extra to go to another hotel. Would never go back again.

No where near as bad as some reviews i read.

I have to admit i was quite worried reading reviews about Hotel Penn before i got there, but once i arrived i found it to be very pleasent indeed. Staff were friendly, amazing location! Would definately stay again.

A Pleasnt Hotel Has Really Gone Down!

I've stayed at the Hotel Pennyslyvania a number of times and found it adequate and a good location if attending events at the Javitts Center. This time, my room was very seedy and not the one included in my package deal. mentioned this to two different clerks, but still ended up with the wrong size bed in a very depressing space. Other than that, it was pretty much the same hotel. It's a real shame because with some redecoration,it could be a very pleasant place to stay.

1 hour delay to check-in....

This hotel knows it has a great location at a good price; it thus appears to skimp on just about everything else. Lousy service.
