Most of the tourists leave before supper so the streets are quiet and very romantic in the evenings.

A hotel on a small canal less than 5 minutes walk from the Academia bridge where there is a vaporetti stop on the grand canal. Bedroom was on the small side which is fairly typical in Venice but was clean and tastefully decorated. The normal buffet breakfast was good especially the coffee!There was a bar but this was not open in February when we were there and so you do all your eating and drinking outside the hotel after breakfast. Good choice for a quiet mid-range hotel.

This is an excellent small hotel, very well run, with an unusually helpful staff. Our room on the canal was clean and reasonably spacious. There is free in-room DSL; bring a cable. The location could not be better. I'll never stay anywhere else in Venice.

Venice is quite compact and you can get around pretty quickly by walking. You'll discover lots of quiet streets and picturesque canal-side walks. Once you get your bearings you're rarely more than 30 minutes walk from any point in the city.

Just nextdoor to the hotel is a very nice restaurant: Cantinone Storico.It's not the cheapest but it's well worth a visit. We found several restaurants in different price-brackets within a short walk of the hotel and all were good.

Stay on the Dorsodoro side and stroll down towards the Campo San Barnaba 5 minutes from the hotel for great bars Ice creams and restaurants

Get a water bus ticket as they take you to all the islands and tourist traps. They are frequent and on time so you aren't left hanging around for long.

Try and get a private water taxi for one of your legs to or from the airport, expensive but well worth it!
