Take care that Bank don't open on Sundays...and some don't open Sat as well. Always READ and ASK COMMISSION charges before exchange. Some charge ridiculous 20% of your money. There is a pretty good bank for doing exchange, take sea bus to Zattere street and then walk up Antonio Foscanini stree the bank is on your right hand side. There is a limit of 600 euro for exchange but commission is less than 10 euros for cashing American Express traveller Euro cheques.

The water busses (Vaporettos) are brilliant and its worth buying a period ticket. On a note from Pl Rome ( bus & Train Station) the Vaporetto no. 41 which is given as the one to catch on arrival, stops at 2015.. so be aware however No. 2 runs much later and a service is available into the early hours. The ticket allows you to visit other Islands so no need to pay for special trips and includes the stopping road bus back to the Airport.

3 day pass bought in airport covers travel on buses and waterbus. Bus 5 from arport goes to Piazza Le Roma and take waterbus 2 (changed from 82) to Palanca and short walk to the hotel. If you must eat around St Marks square opt for tourist taster menus as better value for money.

Make sure to eat pizza at Redentor and have a nice meal at La Mistra as well, very good for the prices. Also, don't worry to much about the water passes you get, we never got checked once for passes while we were there. What a waste of 100 euros.

There are several good restaurants a short walk from the hotel. There also is a very good restaurant just across the Giudecca Canal, as you get off at the San Basilio vaporetto stop - Trattoria San Basilio. You will need a vaporetto (water bus) pass or ticket if you stay at this hotel, as you must take the water bus in order to reach the other areas of Venice. The views of Venice from Giudecca beautiful.

Get a 72-hour land/water bus pass which will get you from airport and around Venice on an unlimited ride basis. A must have and good value @ 30 Euro's

Our initial impression of the hotel was good. It is located on the residential island of Guidecca that is very quiet and tranquil. We were greeted by a friendly concierge who gave us a delicious cup of cappuccino on arrival. Unfortunately, our stay at this hotel went down hill from there. The hotel charged us for wireless internet access that pretty much only worked in the lobby of the hotel. The room was modern, but the TV/Computer barely worked. The shower water would alternate between hot and cold water. The night concierge worked for what seemed to be a 24 hour shift and was not very helpful with the problems with our room and didn't seem to care. We will definitely never stay in this hotel again.

Make sure you get a multi-day pass for the waterbuses which can be bought at the airport(also includes the bus to and from the airport to Piazzale Roma) - great value
