Fine Business Hotel

-Room was great. -Hotel staff was great. -The common areas were just OK; small lobby and reception area, and extremely worn hallways. -Beware the elevators. The up/down lights don't work, and there are two sets of elevators (one customer/one staff) on the same set of buttons. If the staff elevator arrives on your floor, it cancels out your elevator call. Unless you somehow manage to see down the hallway that the staff elevator is open, and can run and get in, you'll miss the elevator. Over the course of my stay, I heard many people complaining about this. Other than this, it was a fine hotel. Great location, and the room was exceptionally good.

Not for a long term stay

The rooms are small but nice. My complaint is that there is no fridge, no ice, and no coffee maker in the room. As a business traveler. I was there for a week on business and I would have liked to have some water and fruit in my room. I certainly didn't enjoy getting dressed and waiting for an elevator just to get my morning cup of coffee. Speaking of elevator, they are truly the slowest and smallest elevators I have ever encountered.

Pleasantly surprised

This hotel had the cheapest rate of all the hotels on the Magnificent Mile, yet it had a great location and I was really impressed with the quality of the room. The elevators are slow and a bit cramped, but that is the only criticism I can think of in an otherwise great hotel.

Good location-Good price

The hotel is conveniently located for the traveller on foot or relying on public transportation. The entrance is a bit confusing as it is on the side street and guest check in is one floor up. The elevators are slow and tiny but the hotel lobby, restaurant and guest rooms are newly refurbished and quite nice. Car parking is very expensive.

Very nice!

We stayed at the Allerton for 3 nights and thought it was great! We were even right by the elevators and didn't hear a thing. Very comfortable, quiet room; nice, helpful staff; and an interesting history to the place. Good location, too - close to some awesome restaurants, public transportation, and the lake.

Definitely not 3.5 star property

Tiny room, no water pressure at all, had trouble rinsing shampoo out of hair! Housekeeping didn't leave me washcloths or bathmat, shower leaked on floor, very slow, crowded elevators--long wait. Biggest deterrent for me was lack of wireless access in the guestrooms. Had to go to lobby to do my work.

Basil Fawlty lives on.

Check the time of the last train back and also any service disruptions as a large program of maintainance and repair is disrupting many services. There is little to do in the central area.

Not as good as what others feel.

Find some other place if you are a picky traveler.

Very nice hotel, especially for the price

Skip the Adler planetarium, even if you are very interested in astronomy. The exhibits are not that interesting or in-depth and it is not worth the wait in line. The Shedd Aquarium is wonderful, and so is the Art Institute of Chicago. The Field Museum can be very crowded. Expect to wait in line at all of the major museums.
