Description

Location. The Hotel Sax Chicago is stationed within Chicago's (Ill.) Marina City complex, just two blocks north of the Chicago Loop business and financial district and one-half block from the Chicago River. Merchandise Mart, Chicago Theatre and Wrigley Building are three blocks from the hotel and shopping at North Michigan Avenue and the River North Gallery District is four blocks away.
Hotel Features. Hotel décor captures the eclectic aura of a 17th-century French salon but with a 21st-century twist. BIN 36 restaurant serves five-course tasting menus, wine pairings and a cheese bar with 50 worldwide selections. The Back Porch specializes in southern favorites such as Tennessee-style Baby Back Ribs, while even the 36-lane bowling alley serves macaroni and cheese with Wisconsin smoked cheddar and wings smothered in plum barbeque. Fine dining at Cubs announcer Harry Caray's self-titled restaurant lends itself to reputable Italian cuisine and the nationally-acclaimed steakhouse, Smith & Wollensky's, is also on site.

The hotel houses flexible function space that accommodating up to 250 guests. Wireless Internet access is complimentary. Discounts apply to the on-site 25,000-square-foot fitness club that houses cardiovascular equipment, boxing gym and spa.

Guestrooms. Synonymous with the hotel's theme, 353 guestrooms at this smoke-free hotel are decorated with unique folk art and a kaleidoscope of color schemes. Furnishings include crushed velvet chairs, Eastern bed valances and minibars stocked with snacks and harmonicas. Rooms include ergonomic chairs with granite-topped desks, high-speed Internet access and safes. Guests traveling with children under four years of age have access to guestroom child-proofing kits.

Expert Tip. Hotel Sax Chicago guestroom keys function as guests' tickets for priority access to jazz, hip-hop and rock concerts hosted at the nationally famed music venue, House of Blues, located adjacent to the hotel.

Overpriced, cramped and downright ugly

The original restaurant from the House of Blues Hotel is still there, Bin 69, and it is about the only redeemable feature of the hotel.

Interesting hotel

Different kind of hotel with its own character. Well located near the Chicago river and the Loop with lots of interesting restaurants in the vicinity. The room was well-appointed and the bed very comfortable.

GREAT BED

The room was on the smaller side, but it had everything we needed. Nice flat screen TV, well kept bathroom, and the bed was wonderful. Friendly staff and close parking(valet took maybe two minutes to bring our car around). We live 5 hours away and will be goiing back for our next stay in the windy city.

Hotel Sax: Staying in Chicago in Style

For a great breakfast, check out the Bongo Room on the South side/ S. Wabash. They have the best and most creative pancakes in town. It's also a nice place to have breakfast before checking out Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium, Adler's Planetarium since it's walking distance from all that and is located very close to the Red Line (train).

Great view

Our room faced the Chicago River and we had a great view of downtown. Lounge downstairs had a good band.
