Description

Location. THE US GRANT hotel stands amid the vibrant atmosphere of downtown San Diego, Calif. This property faces the Horton Plaza retail and entertainment complex and is located two blocks from the Gaslamp Quarter.
Hotel Features. Constructed in 1910, this luxury hotel completed a $56 million renovation in 2006. The lobby features gray-veined white Italian Carrara marble floors, Deniece Duscheone hand-milled carpets, hand-carved ceilings and polished mahogany woodwork. Columns are gilded with 24-karat white gold. Specially commissioned American Indian artwork is exhibited throughout the hotel. The Grant Grill serves California Native Regional cuisine, and houses a full bar. The restaurant hosts live piano or jazz entertainment on scheduled days. A total of 30,000 square feet of architecturally distinct function space accommodates events. The Spa Velia Experience at THE US GRANT offers in-room massage services via personal Spa Sensiere who assist in the selection of one of Spa Velias' three custom-blended aromatherapy oils. A 24-hour, complimentary fitness center contains cardiovascular equipment.

Guestrooms. THE US GRANT offers 270 richly detailed guestrooms with original American Indian artworks, crown molding and custom-crafted furnishings. Entryways feature African walnut wood floors. Light filters through silk sheer window treatments, while blackout draperies are woven of cashmere and wool. Beds are dressed with pillowtop mattresses, white-on-white bedding, 300-thread count Frette Italian linens and commissioned one-of-a-kind French headboards. Bathrooms are clad in marble and most feature glass-enclosed showers only. All bathrooms include granite vanities, white-stone basins, and Gilchrist and Soames toiletries. Rooms include high-speed Internet access for a fee, and 32-inch flat-panel televisions.

Expert Tip. Originally built by Ulysses S. Grant, Jr. as a tribute to his father, the hotel is now owned by the Sycuan tribe. The hotel predominately reflects deep hues of blue and brown that represent the sacred elements of Sky and Earth.

San Diego's Best

This hotel was great from walking in and being greated with someone to open your door; to asking the concierge anything and everything anytime you needed to. The rooms were very spacious in a great updated but still historic manor. Overall it was great and would love to stay there again and will most definately tell others about it.

Fantastic Hotel if you want to be based downtown...

We only had one issue which is the parking charge... $30 to park your car when your already paying $300+ and meals is a little steep so be warned if your bringing your car.... Otherwise, excellent...

Comfort, style and service with a smile.

Buy a travel pass for the public transport, or get the Coaster from the Santa Fe Depot up the coast to Oceanside, Carlsbad or Encinitas for great beaches. Pop to Tijuana on the trolley to experience the contrast between Mexico and California. For food, have breakfast at the Cheese Shop in the Gaslamp Quarter, then lunch at the Crest Café in Hillcrest, before dinner at Filipi's Pizza Grotto in Little Italy or the Old Town Mexican Café. Then pass out on your comfy bed, stuffed but satisfied!

US Grant , the BEST in SD

Many great museums, beaches, and things to do! Great night life and restaurants around the hotel...no need to drive. Suggest going to Catalina.. great beach, shops, etc. Also, LaJolla area; the Balboa Park and SD Zoo are the BEST. Most museums withing walking distance of each other. Small children try LEGOLand. Not for older teens unless they enjoy Legos.

Great hotel, great location

Prior to arriving, I have sent an email to the hotel to request for a quiet room. My room was perfect, very quiet, clean, room has a clock CD player, soft music was playing when I opened the door. Only pity, no bathtub. Very convenient location, I did not rent a car. Transit to Seaworld was 45mins, San Diego zoo was 15mins. Went to Fashion Valley and Mission Valley Mall, both were easily accessible by public transit.
