This hotel is about a mile west of Union Square, the downtown core. Van Ness is an active street with restaurants and some shopping. This is not a swank hotel but is usually reasonable priced. The hotel promises wireless internet in every room. This is $10/day and was not very reliable - worked some hours, but became completely flaky and poor at other hours. Parking is $20/day. I would have stayed here again but need internet at night for catching up on business, so probably won't go back.

Small rooms and terrible beds. Charge for internet, parking, etc. etc. No Breakfast. Lobby has alot of amenities, if you like to hang out there.

I've stayed here before and found the rooms to be more than adequate and the location convenient for travel in the city. This time I was on a higher floor (which I liked), but from 1:30 until 3:30 a.m. people were going up and down the hallways. The room that backed up to mine was partying until mid-morning the following day. Although the room was fairly well insulated from room-to-room noise, the hallway traffic was a problem.

Parking is expensive, but safe. Pool was NOT heated. They have a restaurant/bar, convenience store, and small bakery on the premises. Rent a car to get around, though. VERY busy part of the city!

Although the Hotel staff was exceptional, I was approached several times in the lobby and at the front door by homeless people asking for money. I do realize in a big city this can occur, however they should take precautions for their guests and have someone near the door, one man I saw in the hallway watched me enter my room and then was outside my patio door watching me, my Husband told him he better leave. The condition of our room was old and tired, our matress was falling apart in room 438 and I paid for the upgraded room. Definately not what I expected from a 3 star hotel.

For some great drinks- head over to Fisherman's Wharf area. There are alot of bars that offer happy hour. Or if you don't mind paying a little extra, go to Cityscape for wonderful views of the city.

The Hotel room was quaint. We stayed New Years Eve and the price was pretty great. I expected to pay a lot but was pleasantly surprised. The Hotel was in a perfect location for me. The next morning we woke up, walked to Max's Diner then walked to the movies. We paid for parking at the Hotel which was 22.50 (I don't like when hotel's add a parking fee) but we did get to keep are car there till 5pm. The only thing that was a little disgusting was when I turned on the bath the water was yellow(old pipes I'm guessing) After a few seconds it was clear and I was happy..

I read the reviews, but still believed that it would be better than everyone said. They were all right. The hotel was old, dirty, and only has one counter person! So you always need to wait for checkin. The only good thing is that it is located across from Mel's dinner. So if your hungry after a night out in the city, it's only a few steps away. Please spend a few extra dollars to upgrade to another hotel.
